Expectant Mothers will Benefit From Massage Therapies

Each pregnancy is different and all of them come with their own aches and pains, some even without, but unfortunately we are not all that lucky. It is not essential, but prenatal massages are absolutely wonderful and carry many benefits for the expectant mum. There are many benefits associated with massage therapies, but we will just discuss a few of the biggest ones. No one but a mum will understand what it is like to carry a child or just to be pregnant. It is the most wonderful feeling in the world, but then there’s the morning sickness, the heartburn, the back ache, the nausea, sore/swollen feet and hands, and of course the labor, and then the recovery. It is an unforgettable experience.

When the expectant mum gains weight rapidly (as they do during pregnancy), has raging hormones, and her posture shifts to accommodate baby, lots of things change. She could experience blood pooling in the legs, muscular tensions, aching shoulders and neck, aching back and more. A lot of things change and the expectant mum and dad will have a new life to look forward to, but there should always be time for prenatal massages for mum before baby is born. What the massages do is they help to ease aches and pains, minimize muscle tension, improve circulation, and aid in alleviating other symptoms related to pregnancy.

Besides all of the physical benefits of prenatal massages, another wonderful benefit is the improvement in the mother’s mood and the feeling for her. It is extremely relaxing, and every expectant mum can do with one. The best massage for her will be a full body massage and it should include head, scalp and face massaging and hands and feet as it all helps to relieve aches and pains and is extremely nurturing and soothing. It is important that the areas are gently massaged, and the appropriate amount of pressure to be applied to the certain areas. There are methods that are safe and effective and will provide the expectant mother with comfort and the pampering she deserves, but should be done by an experienced and professional massage therapist.

With the prenatal massages and the benefits they offer, a few of them include improved digestion, reduced stress hormones, encourages relaxation and deep breathing, decreases Insomnia, reduces pelvic/hip pain, improves sleep, reduces calf cramps, reduces fatigue, reduces hand and feet swelling and it increases and promotes good blood circulation among many other benefits. It is tremendously good for emotional reasons for the expectant mother as well, as she is going through many different emotions and feelings. Any sort of relaxation will be bliss for her.

There are many different ways in which a prenatal massage can be performed, but the massage therapist will modify the techniques until they suit the pregnant patient, whether it means changing it completely or just adding or making a few adjustments. Whatever will work for the mother, who is more than likely feeling uncomfortable if she is far into her pregnancy, the professional will make her comfortable in every way possible.

 A Girl, in Parts

A Girl, in Parts

$0.01

The exciting debut of a young voice that tells nothing but the truth in exacting, charming, and often harrowing detail. In the early 1980s in Martinsburg, West Virginia, Dorothy lives with her bartending mother, her bar-attending stepfather, and her sweetly precocious little brother. Dottie’s nine, plagued by insomnia, asthma, earaches, and buckteeth. She is lonely and insecure, but her intelligence and keen sense of perception enable her to see every vivid detail of her impoverished rural surroundings and the strange characters around her. When her family moves to Eastern Washington State, Dottie—confused, petulant, and feeling more alone than ever, furious at her changing body—battles her way through junior high, where she finds a measure of success and recognition in sports and academics. But her hard-won little victories are tempered by her troubled family and friends and she finds solace and distraction in alcohol, cigarettes, and general misbehavior. Dottie—nicknamed Utah by her teammates from the Colville Indian Reservation—becomes a star basketball player, falls in and out of love (more than once), and finally confronts a new, devastating emotional setback. But Dottie is indomitable: she emerges triumphantly as a young woman with limitless dreams and confidence in an uncertain world. Gritty and realistic, A Girl, In Parts is never sentimental about either poverty or childhood. Dorothy is a tough and winning character, a true-to-life heroine perfect for the twenty-first century. First novelist Jasmine Paul has crafted an elegant story in ninety-seven perfectly told vignettes. Excerpt from A Girl, In Parts: Mom doesn’t know what to do. Gabe won’t learn to walk. He refuses to try and stand up. He cries and cries when anyone tries to stand him up. Mom is beside herself. She says, “I am beside myself.” I think it’s very exciting. I like that Gabe refuses to do what they want him to. I like that he smiles

After the Cure: The Untold Stories of Breast Cancer Survivors

After the Cure: The Untold Stories of Breast Cancer Survivors

$20

2009 Choice Outstanding Academic Title2009 Association of American University Presses Award for Jacket DesignChemo brain. Fatigue. Chronic pain. Insomnia. Depression. These are just a few of the ongoing, debilitating symptoms that plague some breast-cancer survivors long after their treatments have officially ended. While there are hundreds of books about breast cancer, ranging from practical medical advice to inspirational stories of survivors, what has been missing until now is testimony from the thousands of women who continue to struggle with persistent health problems. After the Cure is a compelling read filled with fascinating portraits of more than seventy women who are living with the aftermath of breast cancer. Emily K. Abel is one of these women. She and her colleague, Saskia K. Subramanian, whose mother died of cancer, interviewed more than seventy breast cancer survivors who have suffered from post-treatment symptoms. Having heard repeatedly that “the problems are all in your head,” many don't know where to turn for help. The doctors who now refuse to validate their symptoms are often the very ones they depended on to provide life-saving treatments. Sometimes family members who provided essential support through months of chemotherapy and radiation don't believe them. Their work lives, already disrupted by both cancer and its treatment, are further undermined by the lingering symptoms. And every symptom serves as a constant reminder of the trauma of diagnosis, the ordeal of treatment, and the specter of recurrence. Most narratives about surviving breast cancer end with the conclusion of chemotherapy and radiation, painting stereotypical portraits of triumphantly healthy survivors, women who not only survive but emerge better and stronger than before. Here, at last, survivors step out of the shadows and speak compellingly about their “real” stories, giving voice to the complicated, often painful realities
